Ask me anything!

Hello, you out there!

It have been a while since I wrote a blog post last time, but -tadaaa- here I am again!

I just wanted to inform, that I subscribed to a new service called “FormSpring“. Everybody can ask me questions and I am going to respond to it. (Make sure first, your question is not stupid).

If you have any question to me, visit http://tux.ly/ask and ask me a question  (The link is also on my homepage tux.ly). You can do that anonymously, or by signing into the service and ask with your logged-in account.

So, have fun asking and eventually, your question is going to get picked and answered ;)

Rocktile – my first electric guitar

I’ve been talking a lot about wanting to buy an electric guitar one day. I really wanted to experience that kind of guitar play too. And now, last Friday I decided to buy one online. I bought it in a German music shop (Kirstein) in the Internet.

I bought a whole starter package with everything I need. It is a cheap one, but good enough to try a little. Beginning of this week, I got my guitar and I must say that I am impressed. I did not expect that amount of quality for such a low price. Playing e-guitar is really fun… I just need to keep it down because of my neighbors. The amplifier is only a 10W one, but it is enough to blow up my tiny room ;) What I bought is called “Rocktile Banger’s Pack E-Gitarren Set, 7-teilig Sunburst“.

Here a picture of my with my brand new guitar:

VuvuTube

So, what do you guys think about the Vuvuzelas? Yes, exactly… they are ANNOYING. You find instructions everywhere how to filter the Vuvuzela sounds from live streams or from the TV.

BUT… YouTube does just the opposite… They offer during the FIFA worldcup a functionality to put extra Vuvuzlea sound to the videos… I don’t know what I should think about that, but I find it definitely a funny move from YouTube ;)

Even though you probably hate the Vuvuzelas, here is a little video “The Fellowship of the Vuvuzela” which makes you lough:http://www.break.com/index/fellowship-of-the-vuvuzela.html

My notebook is again ready to go!

I think I have to apologize about my rant against DELL in one of my previous posts.

They have an excellent service! Remember when I told you, that they were going to pick it up? Well, they didn’t pick it up… they fixed it HERE and NOW. I now have a brand new notebook screen! It even smells like new. Geez, how much I love the smell of new notebooks!

I am so happy that they fixed this so promptly. I wasn’t even here when they came. The receptionist gave them my notebook and they replaced the screen without any complications or big formalities.

Seriously… DELL has a very good on-place service. So always extend your DELL guarantee, because it’s really worth it!

Over and out… with my new, shiny screen!

Oh no, I have a flat tire!

Something is really wrong here. First, my notebook’s screen and now the tire of my loved car.

Today I was heading to McDonalds with a friend (who I believe want to stay anonymous) when suddenly I thought “Mmhhh… the car is going a little bit too much to the left, without steering that way.” But I thought the screen is crooked. Then, a weird noise sounded from outside the car and I was really wondering what it was.

When suddenly the “tire light” in my car switched on, it came to me: I HAVE A FLAT TIRE! The left, front tire to be precise…

Remember when… we fixed my power supply?

I posted yesterday, that my DELL notebook is going to be repaired. Fortunately, I have a second notebook (my old one) for these days, so I can keep working on our semester project. The bad thing is, that there are some reasons why I bought a new notebook (back in March 2009). One of these reasons was a failure in the power supply. The notebook didn’t get power all the time, even though it was connected. I always assumed that it was a problem on the notebook. But the problem was the power connector.

And as I need my notebook again, I am again confronted with the problem. This time I wanted to do something against it… And after some measurements I found out that the source of failure is the power supply itself. It gave out very variable voltages. I suppose, there are some melted capacitors inside ;)

My DELL notebook is sick (monitor defect)

It started a couple of days ago… without any good reason, the screen of my notebook started not reacting anymore. The pixels filled with white… I could only resolve that problem by pushing at the back of the screen. After a couple of times trying, it worked again.

But yesterday, it didn’t work anymore at all. I decided calling the Dell service hotline. After a short diagnostic, they also finally realized that it must be a hardware defect. But that they pick up my notebook, I need the Dell guarantee. So I first needed to extend mine… I extended it for 2 years, which costs me quite a bunch :(

If you don’t have a Facebook account? WHY??? Create one!! ;)

“The other side of the world”…

… is a thing we often say. But do we mean the correct thing with it? Where exactly is the other side of the world?
You can find it out by the web application I discovered lately: http://www.antipodr.com/

Just enter your country, town and/or complete address and the application will show you, where exactly the “other side of the world is”. An application which is as cool as simple. Try it out! Where is YOUR other side of the world?

First Wii Evening

On Sunday evening, René and me were wondering what we should do in the evening… Going in a bar, going to the movies, … or … PLAYING NINTENDO WII ON THE BEAMER IN THE UNIVERSITY!

Well, we chose the last option, and I gotta tell you: Playing Wii on a beamer is a frickin’ nice experience!! :D Totally different than in front of a TV. Additionally, we also connected it to the speakers in the room. It was just awesome! If you ever have the chance to play Wii in an environment like that: DO IT!

We were playing Wii Sports Resort (Archery, Golf, Sword fight) and Force Unleashed (very awesome Star Wars game!).

Below, some pictures of the legendaryFirst Wii Evening“… Might a lot of them follow!
