Preview – Mexico Trip August 2010

Dear readers, you must think “Is Marc not going in vacation this year?”. Of course I will! And as expected this year, I am going back to Mexico to visit my girlfriend.

I have been there twice: In October 2008 and December 2008. But this time I go longer than ever: Exactly 4 weeks: From August 4th to September 1st.

The last times I have been mainly in Monterrey and Coatzacoalcos, but this time I plan to travel multiple cities. I am not sure which ones though. Maybe Guadalajara, Cancún or Holbox, Acapulco, etc… But what I know for sure is, that I am going to Tamiagua for a wedding of two of my girlfriend’s friends. I have never ever been to a wedding, not even a European one. So I am pretty looking forward to it!

Rocktile – my first electric guitar

I’ve been talking a lot about wanting to buy an electric guitar one day. I really wanted to experience that kind of guitar play too. And now, last Friday I decided to buy one online. I bought it in a German music shop (Kirstein) in the Internet.

I bought a whole starter package with everything I need. It is a cheap one, but good enough to try a little. Beginning of this week, I got my guitar and I must say that I am impressed. I did not expect that amount of quality for such a low price. Playing e-guitar is really fun… I just need to keep it down because of my neighbors. The amplifier is only a 10W one, but it is enough to blow up my tiny room ;) What I bought is called “Rocktile Banger’s Pack E-Gitarren Set, 7-teilig Sunburst“.

Here a picture of my with my brand new guitar:

My notebook is again ready to go!

I think I have to apologize about my rant against DELL in one of my previous posts.

They have an excellent service! Remember when I told you, that they were going to pick it up? Well, they didn’t pick it up… they fixed it HERE and NOW. I now have a brand new notebook screen! It even smells like new. Geez, how much I love the smell of new notebooks!

I am so happy that they fixed this so promptly. I wasn’t even here when they came. The receptionist gave them my notebook and they replaced the screen without any complications or big formalities.

Seriously… DELL has a very good on-place service. So always extend your DELL guarantee, because it’s really worth it!

DELL++;

Over and out… with my new, shiny screen!

Oh no, I have a flat tire!

Something is really wrong here. First, my notebook’s screen and now the tire of my loved car.

Today I was heading to McDonalds with a friend (who I believe want to stay anonymous) when suddenly I thought “Mmhhh… the car is going a little bit too much to the left, without steering that way.” But I thought the screen is crooked. Then, a weird noise sounded from outside the car and I was really wondering what it was.

When suddenly the “tire light” in my car switched on, it came to me: I HAVE A FLAT TIRE! The left, front tire to be precise…

It started a couple of days ago… without any good reason, the screen of my notebook started not reacting anymore. The pixels filled with white… I could only resolve that problem by pushing at the back of the screen. After a couple of times trying, it worked again.

But yesterday, it didn’t work anymore at all. I decided calling the Dell service hotline. After a short diagnostic, they also finally realized that it must be a hardware defect. But that they pick up my notebook, I need the Dell guarantee. So I first needed to extend mine… I extended it for 2 years, which costs me quite a bunch :(

Last week, I have been to Luxembourg for 5 days, and I saw a lot of people I didn’t see for a long time. I realized, that my friends and parts of my family don’t exactly know what I am doing. So in this post I am explaining that ;)

For non-geeks:

I am studying in my second semester (of totally 4) in a Master’s programme in Computer Science in Vorarlberg University of Applied Sciences (Fachhochschule Vorarlberg). I graduated as a Bachelor of Science in Engineering in October 2009. That took me 6 semesters (3 years). I will graduate as a Master of Science in Engineering in October 2011.

Summer vacation: Mexico

Just an hour ago, I booked the flight for my summer vacation this year. Not like all the other times, this time I didn’t buy it in last second. My vacation will be from August 4th to September 1st, exactly 1 month! And the destination is again: Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, Mexico!! :)

My route will be the following: Luxembourg – Paris – Mexico City – Veracruz

I am going by Air France… not because I like it, but because it was the cheapest. I already reserved my seats. For going to Mexico, I won’t sit in a window, but fortunately for going back I will be sitting on a window seat! Yay! ;) I got a good price for the fact that it is high-season. (No, I won’t tell you the exact price here!)

Once being in Mexico, I won’t stay all the time in Coatzacoalcos of course. I will travel around. That plan is not yet made, but I will keep you posted about it. I am pretty excited about this, because it’s been a long time I have been there the last time (December 2008).

city.013 Yesterday we did a first tour through the city…

First, some facts about it: Trondheim is the 3rd most populated city with a little more than 168.000 and the 256th biggest/smallest city in Norway.

When we went to the city, we very quickly noticed that we will have to take care where to step, because the streets and sidewalks are littered with massive ice and/or snow :) It was not too easy to get to the city center itself… and to be honest, it was kinda dangerous ;)

IP Trondheim – The arrival

Yesterday I had my trip to Trondheim, Norway. But is was not as pleasant as I expected…

The journey started in Zurich, where we had to wait quiet a long time to get checked in in the “group check-in”. Boarding was unproblematic and the flight was nice too. It took about two hours.

Arrived in Oslo, the uncomfortable part started… Getting out of the plane it said that domestic flights need to pick up the luggage and check it in again… What the fuck?! Why that? In every flight I had until now it was not like that…
Well okay, I was there picking up my luggage and… yeah… they actually broke my bag!! The wheel was defect when I picked it up.

IP Trondheim – The preparations

Tomorrow, the day will be there to travel to Trondheim (Norway). Why are you asking?

Well… I am participating in a so-called “Intensive Program” (IP) for the FH Vorarlberg. Those IPs are every year and some universities from around Europe are participating (Dornbirn (AT), Trondheim (N), Amsterdam (NL) and a university from Ireland, but I don’t know which one). And this year it’s taking place in Trondheim!
