First Wii Evening

On Sunday evening, René and me were wondering what we should do in the evening… Going in a bar, going to the movies, … or … PLAYING NINTENDO WII ON THE BEAMER IN THE UNIVERSITY!

Well, we chose the last option, and I gotta tell you: Playing Wii on a beamer is a frickin’ nice experience!! Totally different than in front of a TV. Additionally, we also connected it to the speakers in the room. It was just awesome! If you ever have the chance to play Wii in an environment like that: DO IT!

We were playing Wii Sports Resort (Archery, Golf, Sword fight) and Force Unleashed (very awesome Star Wars game!).

HowTo: NOT mess up your Ubuntu setup

This weekend, something happened to me, what I want to share with all of you, because it is one of the stupidest things I have done lately.

I was peacefully setting up Python for development in my Ubuntu (installing the Python packages, Eclipse plugins, …). Everything was running good, until I just wanted to change a little thing… I wanted to have Python 3.0 as default python command instead of Python 2.6. With update-alternatives, I didn’t went far (that’s weird indeed). So I thought “Let’s just uninstall Python 2.6, so that the system is forced to use my 3.0 installation”. That was a really really bad idea!

The changes… FINALLY!!

Hello cats and kittens, ladies and gentlemen… you wondered for weeks know “What the heck is going on there? What is the big change now??”. I know that some of you assumed that I will get married, that my girlfriend is pregnant and diverse other things (greets at this point to the gossiping office of Chauffage & Sanitaire Nico Backes ).

If you would have read my announcements correctly, you would have noticed that I wrote that only my Internet life will change. So… what is it now??

Last week, I have been to Luxembourg for 5 days, and I saw a lot of people I didn’t see for a long time. I realized, that my friends and parts of my family don’t exactly know what I am doing. So in this post I am explaining that

For non-geeks:

I am studying in my second semester (of totally 4) in a Master’s programme in Computer Science in Vorarlberg University of Applied Sciences (Fachhochschule Vorarlberg). I graduated as a Bachelor of Science in Engineering in October 2009. That took me 6 semesters (3 years). I will graduate as a Master of Science in Engineering in October 2011.

Changes postponed!

Sorry guys, the changes I told you about a few posts ago can’t be done by promised date (today). Reason for this is being quiet busy studying. So I will set a new, definite date (where I am sure of, that I am going to make it).

Movie recommendation: Kick-Ass

One of these days, I saw the movie “Kick-Ass“… I must say, I kinda fought with my self to see it, because I thought it was really stupid. Why? Because of a short clip I saw on TV, which took it out of context and because of the movie title (it does sound kinda stupid, doesn’t it?). But a trustworthy friend swore that the movie is frickin’ ass-kickin’, so I decided to see it…

Man, really… that movie is one of the most wicked I have seen since a long long time!

Dave Lizewski is an unnoticed high school student and comic book fan with a few friends and who lives alone with his father. His life is not very difficult and his personal trials not that overwhelming. However, one day he makes the simple decision to become a super-hero even though he has no powers or training.

HowTo: Fix the “Slow Internet” problem in Ubuntu 10.04

Some people have a problem with Ubuntu 10.04, that the “Internet is too slow“. Well, I had the same problem and I kinda figured it our what it the problem, but I didn’t have a solution for it (because I didn’t search for it).

Sometimes, there are troubles with resolving addresses because IPv6 is turned on. I noticed it on the endless taking “Resolving host…” in Google Chrome.

A friend switched this week to Ubuntu, and he claimed about that problem, so I took some time to look it up. As annoying as the problem is, as quick is the solution to it: Disabling IPv6!

Movie: Legion

Yesterday, Rene and me decided to go to the cinema, and we selected our movie by watching (half of) a trailer of “Legion“. We thought “Damn! That movie is gonna be ‘legiondary’”. Because of… let’s say some very strange and surprising scenes.

So, we went to Cineplexx Hohenems to go to see that movie! I must say, it was quiet funny (in a very creepy way sometimes). There were a lot of cool scenes, honestly… but the story is only medium to weak. Some pretty weird and illogical things happen there…
